Song Calling attention to Humane Societies

Veterinarian, Dr. Lorica, better known to the Contemporary Jazz world as guitarist Noel Lorica has composed the song "Second Glance" in honor of pets that need another chance for a good life. As he works closely with the non-profit organization Stray-No-More to help reduce unwanted litters of cats and dogs through their spay program, he hopes to revalue the lives of so many companion pets that are abandoned today. He recalls the origin of this song to ABC News as he describes staying with an emergency patient in his clinic and as he monitored the dog's progress throughout the night. "I often play my guitar in the clinic, it seems to give me clarity and I think the animals like it too."

As most of his songs are instrumentals, he feels his guitar becomes his voice and listening to them you can certainly feel the emotion that went into creating each song. "I credit my experiences, my family and my surroundings as my inspiration." Whether it's the memories of his life growing up in Manila and moving to Florida or an errant family vacation trek through Death Valley, or the plight of the Rainforest, these become part of his journey and part of his music.

His unique career course has had many people scratching their heads and wagging their tails. Noel admits that it causes some challenges. "At first, I tried to keep my veterinary career separate because I had a hard time having people take my music seriously, I even had a stage grip of a later headline artist stand right out in front of us on stage and adjust lights during my performance at a major festival". But all you have to do is listen to Noel Lorica's music to realize it's not a gimmick. Even The Recording Academy recognized his potential- being selected for the Grammy ballot last year. And this year, three of his songs including "Second Glance" have already received recognition by some of the music industry's benchmarks - Billboard, John Lennon Song Contest and Independent Music Company (IACMusic). In addition, his music is selling widely on the Internet including CDBaby.com, Amazon and Apple ITunes.

But many more challenges still exist as he battles the major labels to get greater radio airplay. "You definitely have an uphill road being an independent artist. You can't get the publicity it takes to get noticed by the radio stations and I'm not known for my singing voice so American Idol is out. I have to say though that I'm grateful to many of my fans that have requested my music on radio, it helps if program directors know that more than just my family appreciates my music".
